forst tine posting over here, I normally reside in the bullnose forum. I’m looking to swap out the t-19 4speed trans to a zf5 unit for mpg’s. Problem is, I apparently live in a 5 speed black hole, Craigslist, facebooks marketplace, word of mouth, every junkyard within a couple hundred mile radius and I can’t find a single one. I simply refuse to pay $1700 plus $800 core, and who knows how much freight shipping to buy a remanned unit. Where are all these things hiding at? Are they rare? Am I not looking hard enough? I feel like the longer I look (2+ years) the more I’ll be let down when it doesn’t give me the fuel mileage I think it should...Thanks y’all!
I have 2 4X4 460 ZF 5 speed transmissions sitting my garage. I got both of them from F-Superduty trucks. They are 2wd trucks that use 4x4 trans with a park brake on the back. I paid very little for either one.
Rubbing salt in the wounds, hahaha! I’ve seen the f-superduties in 2wd, but yet to see the 4wd one your speaking of, got a picture? I’m assuming it’s a different tailhousing than one off a regular 2wd truck. Besides, all these truck local in my area are 7.3’s.

They all come from Ford as 2wd's but they all use 4wd transmissions so that the driveline parking brake can be bolted to them, where a t-case would be in a 4wd truck.
If your having a hard time finding one locally, after 2 years you kinda have to call it and have one shipped lol.
Use car-part.com and call around some salvage yards to see who's willing to ship.
Interesting, I wrote them off as 2wd and wouldn’t work, but I never bothered to look at them! Now, if I can find a 460 model. The two I know of here are diesels....
I’ll trade ya! All I can find is sbf and even more 7.3 diesels. True on the fact that I can’t find one when I need one. Then again I’ll try to be patient. I haven’t even “seen” a parts truck!
I bought a 97 250 4wd with a 460/5spd in Peublo CO this year. Trans tail housing before the transfer case busted out of it. Paid 800 bucks for it, 71,000 miles Truck's like new. I was going to haul it back to MN with my goose trailer, but my son, living in Denver and a tech for Mercedes picked the truck up, went to a U-pick in Denver, had 3 to choose from at that time, and picked a good one up for $75. We put that in and he drove it back to MN later that summer. The 5 spd that was in it is apart on my bench and I have a new casting from ZF (kind of a bugger to find). I've 2 rust free 97 F250s on the farm along with my trusty rusty 89. That has an excellent running 460 with 5 spd 4wd. BW1356 transfer. That truck I will be parting as the cab is toast. I'm in west central MN if interested. I have no idea how to leave an email address so it's not open to the world as other forums have, to allow communication between readers.

I am back and forth on swapping out the sloppy shifting and leaking M5OD for a ZF. I have never seen one around my usual junkyards so I would have to make a day trip of it to go get one several hours away. I feel your pain.
Here in the north east they SELL for 3-500. I see them advertised for 800+ but they do not sell, nor should they. Junk yards don't sell them for that much with a warranty.
As for shipping, it should not cost more than 150 to ship one on a pallet
And like stated earlier, the F-superduty(10 lug trucks )use a 4wd version, they jut bolt a drum parking brake in instead of the transferase
Good info, I suspected there was a twisting motion that caused it. A neighbor had one flip the transfer case and shatter it. My trans mount is new but engine mounts are still original. I didn’t know if the problem was made worse by any other issues.
