This question is for everyone that has done a custome/special order. I've been looking at trucks on the web for a couple months and on ford site. Today decide to finally go to nearest dealer with a build sheet i did on ford web page. ( 250xl stx with a few other options).
Give specs to salesmen, he looks at it goes to back room where his boss is, comes back and says he can't come off list. Is that typical when not buying off lot?

That’s crap. However, your dealer’s business model may be to sell off his/her lot.
Our local dealer in western NC will do a special, order for invoice plus TTT less applicable incentives, and no doc fees. Some dealers will sell under invoice, but watch out for doc fees and/or low trade offers.
Every dealer in the Cleveland Ohio area did basically invoice or minus some. I special ordered for invoice minus 750. I lso had 4k in incentives too on top of that..

B.S.
I special ordered my F350 (should be in any day) recently. I got it for about 14% off of list price. The dealer is taking you for a ride. I sent the specs for the truck I wanted to about six different dealers. Some wouldn't come down much. The one that gave me the lowest quote got my order.
as stated by others, just email the request to local dealers. You should be able to negotiate and order without ever going to the dealer.
If you have access to Xplan, you'll basically pay a couple hundred over invoice - rebates and it doesn't matter what dealer you buy from, they are all the same price. Or as others have said, just negotiate, and you can get several hundred to maybe a thousand under invoice - rebates, just be sure to understand doc or any other fees.
normally you will get the better of rebates now or at the time of delivery.
you can look up the exact invoice on NADA, by selecting all the same options as your build.
As others have said, that dealer doesn't want your business. I ordered mine for Invoice - $500 - incentives. Other have done better. Invoice or better plus incentives should be easily achievable.
If you belong to Costco you should also compare their prices. Certain dealers contract them for a certain percentage over or under invoice plus incentives. When I purchased my 2015 in November of 2014 the msrp was 70,000 and I paid 59,000.
If you live east of the Mississippi looks up Koons. They have multiple dealerships in Virginia and Maryland and have great prices.
OP,
Where do you live? It just blows my mind dealers in your area will not do a custom order. Its money in the bank for them without tying up inventory.
I agree with many others. Email your build sheet specs to a bunch of dealers asking for best price exclusive of any rebates. Those you can calculate yourself and can cloud the bottom line between dealers. Some might include rebates you don't qualify for. I got my special order for 12.5% below MSRP plus other $5k in offers. I was lucky enough to have one of the $3k PCOs.
