I don't have a problem with the "Unknown Caller" garbage that I get on my phone cause if that's what the answer machine says, I just don't answer. What I do have a problem with are the "fax" calls. I recently disconnected my 2nd phone number because I got tired of the 3 & 4 am "spam faxes". We were getting "Unknown Caller" faxes, which meant that I couldn't fax them back to say not to fax me anymore. I also didn't like to have to fax a "Do Not Fax Me" thing to numbers that cost me long distance numbers in order to get them to stop.
If I wanted to buy new windows, healthg insurance, credit protection, or anything else for that matter, I would shop around and make an informed decision, i SURE wouldnt buy it from someone over the phone at 7 pm at night ehom I do not know.

P.s
We are going to put the unknown caller call block on our phone as 95 % of them are unknown callers and we recieve on average 4 a day.. Heopefully that helps some.
I chose to have telephone service installed in my home, just as I chose to have other “Public Utilities”, i.e. Natural Gas and Electricity, connected. None of these services are mandatory.
My telephone service is described as “Private Service” for which I am billed monthly, this service was chosen for my convenience, for my use. I even selected and pay for an unlisted number.
How can selecting not to receive unwanted calls be an invasion of someone’s “Freedom of Speech”?
Is it alright for someone to “Tap” into my electrical or gas service and use that product for their own use?
They really went about this the wrong way, the wording was all wrong. Instead of having a, "don't call" list, it should have been marketed as a, "do call" list. That way the telemarketers could offer incentives to be put on the list, charities could use other forms of media to advertise for the list, and people that really enjoy those calls, (for whatever reason), would have a place to go.
Think about it. It would give telemarketers a list of preselected marks, er, customers - that's it, customers to call. Wonder what the success rate is now? Maybe 2 sales per 100 calls? 2 per 1000? I don't know, but I'm sure it would go up.
Same thing would work for junk mail. You could be put on the junk mail list if you wanted it. The USPS would probably end up losing money.
I'm sure there's enough people out there, hard up for cash, that would be more than willing to suppliment their income with the phone and mail incentive offers.
Maybe all of us who want the do not call list (50 million) should call the judges who struck it down and try to sell them something at 7:00 PM. :0)
Actually Ken, you may be right. However I know of several instances of justices legislating from the bench. In one instance the justice in question violated the principal of no taxation without representation. A judge in Kansas City enacted a tax to pay for something for the schools. The details are fuzzy now but it happened in 1989 just as I moved into that city.
I think there should be some way to check the power of the judicial branch. For example congress could override a judicial ruling with a high majority. Or an ammendment that judges can stike down laws as unconstitiutional but CAN NOT create or enact new laws.
Well there is a check on the judicial branch...it's called impeachment. However, it's not used much any more. The whole 9th Circuit judges should have been impeached after the Pledge of Alliegance thing (that was the last straw) but there's too many liberals in the legislative branch to make that a successful venture.
Well, as already said, it's one of those cases that we all have to simply hate the fact that the telemarketers were right on this one.
Me personally, it wouldn't bother me when I was working dayshifts, if they called during normal "business hours", to discuss business. But when you call my home at 10PM, yeah, you're wrong. Also, with me working nights, it is an inconvenience to have them call me while I'm sleeping, but, I consider it a mild one. I have an answering machine, and a cell phone by my bed. If it's anyone important, they'll call my cell. If not, leave a message.
