Headlight Conversion: New Header Panel Vs. Cutting

I'm new to the forum and haven't seen this question. I have a 2000 F350 7.3. and new to being a 7.3 owner. I am eventually going to convert the entire front end (bumper, headlights and grill) to '05-'07, but starting with the headlight assembly only first. I am wondering if it would be easier to replace the header panel rather than cutting the holes. If I do replace the header panel to '05-'07, will my 2000 grill snap into the bottom clips or will I need to zip tie?

If you replace the header panel the 99-04 grille will need to be ziptied. Cutting the panel is not overly difficult. About 15 minutes per side with a dremel and a cut wheel for mine. I will move then likely be replacing the panel and converting the whole front end early next year when I add a winch bumper

Thanks!!! I guess I'll be getting the dremel out soon!!! Not excited about it. I wish I had the dough to get the whole thing done. They have a nice kit at Sinister Diesel (bumper, valance, grill, headlights and all the hardware to fit the bumper) for $1400 and change. I like your build. I subscribed and will be following your work.

thanks for the compliments. Another thing to consider is the 11-16 bumper. There was a post on here I saw a few days ago where the Poster had a 99 truck, upgraded the headlights and grill to the 05-07 and the bumper to the 11-16. Looked sharp.

I replaced my header panel on my 99 with an aftermarket 05-07 header panel. If you plan to convert everything, then I’d get a new header panel. Initially, I was gonna comvert everything (bumper, headlights, header panel, grille). However, I’ve now decided I’m going to keep the stock 99 bumper. With the 05-07 header panel and 99 bumper, it doesn’t line up all that well. Therefore, I’m going to be going back to the original header panel and just cut it out right to fit the 05 headlights. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. What doesn’t line up well? The ‘99 grille or the ‘05 lights. Did the ‘99 grille clip into the ‘05 header panel or did you have to zip tie it or something else?

That looks pretty bad ***! From the front. I’m not sure I’m too keen on the body lines not matching up between the fender/wheel well and the side of the bumper. Pretty ingenious though! I’d consider that bumper in chrome.

‘If you decide to just replace the headlights here’s my thread on replacing the stock headlights with LED’s.

I cut my header panel on my 01. I did 05-07 headlights, and 05-07 grill that was cut down on the bottom to fit my 01 bumper. Looked pretty good.

Thanks!!! I’m switching to the ‘05-‘07 style housing and not wanting to cut into the back of it. Nice job on yours!

I'm eventually going all in. Starting with the header panel and 05-07 headlights. Next will be 05-07 bumper and grille. Then, at least a leveling possibly a small lift. And finally new wheels and tires.

I've started. Parts are SLOWLY arriving. Received my assemblies from Headlight Depot and a set of LED's from Headlight Experts; I am returning the LED's. ***SEE BELOW***

I ordered a second set of LED's from Headlight Revolution (Morimoto 2stroke 2.0's) and am anxiously awaiting their arrival along with the '05-07 header panel. Question, when applying the H13 bulbs, would it be better or even possible to splice in a new H13 pig tail and get rid of my old pigtails rather than using the adapters? I have bad grounds in both old pig tails anyways and H13 pigtails are less than $10.

*****NEVER USE HEADLIGHT EXPERTS!!!!!***** Their bulbs came with one of the heatsyncs deformed/defective. I sent a pic via email and they said, "That's just manufacturing variances." Against my better judgement I let that comment slide. I attempted to test the bulbs by installing them into the assembly, they were loose and turned with just a tap of the wire. I sent an email again and advised them that the bulbs were loose in the assembly and they became very defensive, asking if I was sure I installed them correctly and if I had lost the gasket. I replied with a video and they said I could return them as a return, charging me a 20% restocking fee as opposed to a defective item. BE ADVISED. HEADLIGHT EXPERTS CONDUCT BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES.

I've had really good luck with superbrightLED and TRS. Diode dynamics is a company I will probably try out. That's a bummer they were so difficult though.

Here is one before I added the 05-07 cut down grill. Headlights were Harley Davidson F250 headlights.
