Grinding when braking sometimes

I have a 2012 Lariat 5.0 4x4 with 81K miles. I've owned it for the past 38K miles.

Lately, I sometimes get a grinding feel/noise when coming close to a complete stop when braking. It does not always occur. Sometimes it happens when turning, sometimes when going straight.
There is a kinda of 'pulsation' feel ............ not in the brake pedal - more of a general feel (hope that makes sense).

I had a IWE repair a year ago or so .......... this seems slightly different ........... for some reason, it almost feels like the grind is NOT coming from the brake/IWE area - perhaps near the transfer case.

I wish I had more solid info to provide, but looking for things I can try to reproduce the problem/narrow down the areas to check. Of course the following could be the problem:

- IWE again
- brakes (I've never replaced them - not sure if prior owner replaced them during his/her 43K miles of ownership)
- wheel bearings

Any suggestions ? Thanks.

If this happens while braking, I would check out the brakes first. Friend just had the same symptom and his fronts were down to the backing plate. Did rotors and pads all around.

At least you can rule out this area, then look elsewhere.

Maybe CV joint up front or U-joint on the drive shaft? This is of course if it's not a brake related problem. I would check the brakes first.
