i am wondering about doing the swap to the 5.8 in my 88 Bronco. It has the 5.0 now. My question is will all of my accessories off of my 5.0 bolt on to the 5.8. (power steering, alternator, smog pump brackets) Any help would be great.
Accessory brackets for 88 are the same between 302 & 351. Critical one to check is the PS/AC mounting bracket, should have 2 holes where it mounts on the water pump stud.
So I should be able to run the same exact belt setup I have currently? I dont have any A/C, I have the power steering, but cant really tell where the bolts go through.
Cool swap. I just got done doing the same thing with a 86 F150.
All of my accessories fit both motors except the power steering. I do not have ac. You will have to get a new EGR tube. The tube on a 302 comes from the lower intake while the tube on a 351W come from the front of the passenger manafold. You can pick one of these at any ford Dealer place and it is only 48 bucks. Some other things that you will have to think about is the firing order on the two motors is different. Which means that you will either cut and splice your wiring harnes for your fuel injectors or find a used computer. The rest of the wiring harnes is the same. As far as the smog pump, trash it. All it does is kill the horse power and most people do not look for them when the vehicle is inspected.
The other think that is important is these two motors are balanced different. So try to get a fly wheel or flex plat for the new motor along with a hbouncer
I just want to say thank you both. But as far as cutting into my harness. I thought that both engines injectors fired the same. Also I want to keep my smog pump, Here in Alaska they stick the sniffer in the exhast and I dont want any problems come emissions time.
