MORE hub Questions
But whats the difference and are warns the best manuals?
I have to put it in drive, then drop it in 4High to get it ingaged, but must be stopped for them to work if they are not ingaged. And to disinage i have to go in reverse, so are these mans or autos... i guess i could check tomorrow morning..
Also how do u know if you have a 3 or 4 or 5 bolt hub?
Thanks a lot
Adam
For the bolts, all I can say is count them. Both my 82 and 83 have 6 bolts. Not sure when they went to a 5bolt.
Good luck bro.
But is that the leaking your talking about? Also, can you re oil them in any way?
And...... is there any way to check to see if they still work? I cant think of any good ones, besides jacking all 3 sides of the car up cept 1 front tire and starting the car and running it in 4 wheel with no gas, just idle drive, for both sides.
Im going to need them, I live in MI and SOMETIMES we get bad snow, but rarly.

I had a leak similar to what you are talking about. Chances are the seal on your hubs are going bad. There is a rubber O-ring in there. If you take out the screws/bolts that hold your hub on and take off the chrome piece you will see the rubber O-ring. I would buy a hub rebuild kit, I know Ford sells one, and replace it. This would be a good time to repack or replace your inner and outer wheel bearings as well. The oil you find on your rim isn't oil; it is grease that is used to lubricate your bearings. When it heats up it turns into an oil consistency.
As to seeing if your 4WD still works, just go find some mud (not too deep) or a steep hill, you will be able to tell if you have a tire up front spinning.
