Has anyone attempted to put a Sync system into an older vehicle yet? I have been kicking around the idea of attempting it for a lil bit now. I was thinking of updating My Ford Touch Sync2 version in my Mustang to the Sync3. And maybe installing the Sync2 in my 04F250. Just wondering if anyone else has already tried or is pondering the same...
SYNC sucks. I'm not sure why anyone would want to add it to any vehicle. Just kidding (not really) It would be quite the chore to update it in your mustang to the new system, and even harder to put it in the 04 SD
The update for my Mustang is actually pretty painless. Just costly. https://www.4dtech.com/products/ford...yford-touch-8/
The install of the Sync into the 04 would definitely be the chore. I don’t think I would be looking to or even be able to tie the Sync system to the climate control and all the voice controls. Just more want the clean Bluetooth connection and sound quality that goes with it. And the voice and radio control of the phone connection.
I can't imagine anything, anything Sync related, working in the F-250. I think most of the Sync stuff is controlled by the computer. I'm not too sure you would even get the radio to work, though that may be the only thing I think that would.
The Sync system has a few pieces of hardware that go with it. There's the touchscreen unit itself, the APIM unit that attaches to that, and then the computer module that runs it all. i would need to obviously have all of that to go with. Like you said i don't believe I could gain any functionality of the features that are tied to the can-bus in the newer vehicles. I'm just more looking for all of the radio features and the connectivity of my phone to the radio and the use there. I have had a ton of vehicles all with different radios and different radios. Connections via bluetooth and plug in, and none have ever been as good as the Sync in my Mustang.
I've got a 60 dollar pioneer single din head unit in my 96 tacoma beater that will out perform any SYNC radio I have seen. Your Mustang must have the unicorn version of SYNC. All kidding aside, if you like the sync, I think it is possible to update it in new vehicles like your mustang, but it would be more headache than it is worth for the super duty you have. I want to get rid of mine totally in my truck, just can't decide on a head unit that I want to go with.
