i have a 1980 ford f350 with a 351m and when im drivin i get up around 60 65 and the engine is crying cause its low geared... is there any other c6 tranys i could get or something that will bolt up to he 351m???
plus the 351m when it gets hot it starts to lose power.. is the motor bad??? and should i change it to a 400
don't know about the engine questions but what is your rear end gear maybe you could look into changine it? other then that you'd have to go to something like an e40d from a 460 or a zf manual from a 460, also I think you might be able to get overdrive units to bolt behind the c6??? but I'm not sure
output ratio for all c6 trannies is 1-1 only way to drop engine rpm is reduce axlel ratio, put in an overdrive tranny,or go to a taller tire what gear ratio do you have now check the id sticker on the left cab door rear post see what it says for axle type or lift the rear wheels off the ground mark the drive shaft and one wheel if it has positraction (both wheels will spin the same direction) turn the drive till tires make on revolution counting the turns if its a one wheel wonder hold or block one wheel from turning and count the revolutions of the driveshaft it takes to turn the other one revolution that'll give you approximate gear rotio i.e a little more than 4 is 4.10 , 4 1/2 turns is about 4.56 , 3 1/2 turns 3.55
being a 1 ton you should have about 4.10 or deeper measure the tire hieght go to tiresize /rpm thread in the
mechanical section and see what ya got if you are used to a car's
engine rpm it will sound pretty busy with deep gears
