I think you will find more people willing to learn in a smaller college- not so much interested in a free ride :-)

Nobody blinked an eye, not one person felt threatened, school staff wouldn't say a word, and didn't care, weren't worried. I brought Dad's old 12 guage shotgun in to the school to rebuild and rebuild the stock. Carried it right by the principal, who asked to look it over, saying, "That looks like a fun project!"
There was no fear anyone would get shot, there was no mind set that kids were going to shoot kids. Then Columbine... News made them heroes, to everyone who had ever been picked on, or had a mean streak, or a mental illness.

People used to sit on the front porch and watch the world go by, and ask people would walk past their place, they may strike a conversation with them, perhaps bonding or getting to know them. Garages used to be at the back of the house, and the front porch was the focus of a house. Now today nearly all new houses, have the garage as the focal point of the house, extending out the front of the house. Large doors at the front of the house that are usually closed to society. Front porches are not being built into most new houses, and it seems most people in our neighborhood don't enter their house through the front door, but open the garage to enter the house even if they don't park in the garage. Once inside, they don't seem to come out, unless its to mow. Some neighbors, have weird hours, and never come out, and I have no idea who they are, or what they look like.

After something horrible happens, the neighbors are always interviewed, and it almost always has the same story.. "They were a quiet neighbor, they kept to themselves" but it seems everyone is a bit that way these days. (except our neighbors across the street that scream at each other every living moment of the day.. but that chapter closed, they moved and got foreclosed on.)

Theft in the world is such a problem that when places like Walmart and Dillons install self checkouts they have to formulate how much shrinkage they are willing to accept in order to let 6 tellers go and replace them with self checkout computers and scales.

We have reached a point where its not safe to discipline your child. I guess we are supposed to let them grow up to be wild animals.

Common Core.. that is all I have to say about that..

Everybody gets a ribbon.

1 person responsible for doing what 3 people used to do.

I may sound like I am angry or bitter or even complaining, but I'm not, I am just pointing out the differences that I see taking place now, compared to what I remember in the past.

Some of these things I may complain about from time to time, but most of the time I shrug my shoulders and frown my face and move on..

I just wanted to add some more topics for you.
Not complaining here either..
Remember when you could walk through the airport and get on a plane without taking your shoes off, ah, the good old days.
Remember when you could go to the DMV and not have to wait an hour?...
remember when people used to wear sweatshirts with hoods weren't considered dangerous, or how about, leaving a mall after dark to walk to your vehicle without an armed escort.
remember when we were able to voice our opinions without ridicule.

I remember all those things- and more-- I read a quote saying something about- Men go to war- and become strong and brave- so their kids can not have to go to war- and have a better life- so with a better life the kids become soft /week- and the grand kids become soft week and lazy-- the lazy grand kids forget what war is like and start a war because they want a better life-- and the men become strong- their kids become soft and weak.

I think there is allot of truth to that.

This laziness of which you speak is well documented in this movie.

Going to war? Our country has been doing that since 9/11 non stop, but only a small percentage of our population have been directly involved in serving. I hate to think war is what it takes to prevent soft and lazy.

We will always have soft and lazy and even among those who served in war time a few came back and were soft and lazy although I woulds suggest it was far less than the general population.

Most of us here are neither soft or lazy and most have not served in war time. Although since I retired I seem to have become more soft and more lazy.

Logged onto facebook this morning and there were several people that either had Pres. Trump as an idiot or Pelosi an idiot this morning--- Some saying the the shutdown would be great some saying it would be harmful. I have my own opinions but I feel that if there is a shutdown Congress should not be paid.

Last time they had a shut down, the employees went without pay, until they started operating again. Employees were not allowed to do work, research, or anything work related. When work resumed, the employees were cut a check for the time they didn't work, as back pay. (at least that is how several of my neighbors were handled. maybe not all gov. employees) I am not against the employees getting paid, but when they are told they cannot work, then sit at home waiting for a phone call to go back to work, we as a country are actually paying the employees still, only no work is getting done. My neighbors were worried about how long they would be without work, which makes sense, but after it was all done, they got back pay same as if they had worked. ( Where is the cost savings for the country for that? ) it actually cost the country more, and for no more benefit of saving money.

The idea of a shut down is stupid. It is like the little kid saying if you won't play by my goofy rules, I'm taking the ball and going home. Grow up kids!

Facebook! I deleted it from my phone yesterday and am considering deleting it completely from all devices. I like it for keeping up with friends and family, but it has gotten to be some much stupid stuff with advertising and still dumb political stuff that it is a pain. A bigger reason is the folks at Facebook seem to be irresponsible with my data and I'm not sure I want them giving or selling it to anyone in the world. They take no responsibility for the platform except if it is a nude picture or I try to sell a gun.

^^^^ the problem with your post on Facebook was not the nudity, or selling a gun, it was the picture of you holding the gun while you were naked.^^^^^^ They just didn't want you getting pinched or shot without proper protection. LOL!!
