Is there anything someone could do to a Powerstroke that would prevent it from using any DEF? Not talking about deleting, or maybe I am? My situation is since I bought my 2011 6.7 Lariat, the DEF message has been at "Below 1/2 Full". I have only driven it 2,000 and change since purchase. I did see when regen cycle start. I can't recall seeing it finish, but it might have. I don't tow, just normal city and highway driving. Just curious. I haven't filled the DEF because I wanted to see how long it would last etc. I seem to have the stock tailpipe etc. Should I be worried or does it last like 5,000 miles or something?

A tank of DEF will last about an oil change interval, so about 6k or so depending on how much you work the motor.
As for the regen, with 2k miles driven, your truck has seen a minimum of 4 regens (mandatory every 500 miles) but with highway/city driving and no towing its done probably around 8. The regen message pops up and disappears quickly so most don't even notice it.

message should not come up every time you drive it for the DTE on the DEF until you are at 500 miles or less.
My self I would not even bother monitoring it until you see that 500 until empty and even then I would not fill until the 200 mile mark.
You get plenty of warnings.

By doing that, odds are the DPF would plug up in no time.
