2000 7.3L 1st & 2nd gear stutters

So, this is my 2nd 2000 7.3L (never should have sold the last one). Starting to workout the kinks. 1st and 2nd gear stutters. Any suggestions?

Timmyboy,

Have you ever heard someone with a speech impediment? Lol
So, it’s an automatic with a triple disc torque converter (which I have a separate problem with). It I randomly hesitates 4 quick times in the beginning of 1st & 2nd gear. Fuel filters clogged in fuel sending unit?

I would think that if it only does it in 1st and 2nd it would transmission related, not engine related. However I am still learning these things and could easily be wrong.

When was the pan dropped? Could be as simple as a fluid and filter.

Previous owner chopped up the fuel sending unit with no filters or pickup.

So,

The PO went with a plugged sock syndrom. Not correctly, but whatev.

Your stutter would suggest you have a fuel delivery issue.

Since you have it down and apart, do the hutch/harpoon and renew your fuel filter.

Since you dropped the trans pan, I would also flush and renew the filter.

Most guys put an inline filter after the mod from the tank, but if your not running home grown you will be good.

i haven’t dropped the transs pan yet...still addressing the fuel delivery. Planning on new new delivery system, fuel filter, and What’s a hutch/harpoon Denny?

What was done to your pickup was a band-aid fix.

Go to the search bar and read up on Hutch mod as well as Harpoon. They detail everything.

Very wise guys. Can't compete.

I would urge you to follow the directions to the bone if you decide to go in that manner.

It's very cheap, It's a very necessary repair and it will serve you well.

If you haven't serviced the trans..............I would anyway. But do so a couple hundred miles away from this to solve this issue!
