Could someone tell me what is the function of the rectangle of the intake manifloid that is indicated in the photograph below?
(internet picture)
I ask, because I have rebuilt my carburetor motorcraft 2 barrel and precisely when I put the carb on the intake, in that rectangle, sucks a lot of air, and obviously the engine does not work properly.
It is important to mention that my father (previous owner), eliminated everything related to the EGR and other vacumm stuff, and had placed a spacer -that I want to eliminate-, since the bar of the overdrive (aod transmission) I suspect does not work correctly.
In this regard if someone has any information or comment to solve my issue, I would like to hear it.
Yes, that is where the exhaust comes up through and feeds the EGR through the EGR spacer. You will need that other spacer, if it's the same thickness as the EGR spacer, then it should make everything work out. I would try to order the correct gasket for underneath the EGR spacer for your blank spacer, it's probably a metal hybrid of some sort to withstand the exhaust heat.
Thank you for your comments, in attention to them and in order to know how the EGR was placed, someone will have at hand some pictures of the placement of the same and how the EGR looks put on.
On the other hand, do you think I should install an EGR?

Greetings.
If you do not need it for emission compliance leave it off you get more power and potentially better fuel economy with it off. The EGR sat behind the carb. Below is a pic of the plate sans EGR.
This is the same setup as I have. We just rebuilt the carburetor and I pulled this off to clean. One 'vent was 95%+ plugged so I cleaned it out. I did not have a gasket for this in the carb kit ( I have it ordered now) so I put the old one back on. (I wound up having the wrong carburetor kit sold to me, so I have to redo anyway). I also found the hose that went to the EGR valve had a broken screw or piece of metal pushed up into it to plug it. I took that out, now I am guessing I should have left them like they were, plugged up?
For the gaskets you are looking for Felpro ES70582 . All the local stores have this gasket kit and it's on Amazon, Rockauto, and others. The EGR spacer will probably be a Ford dealer item, unless you want just a generic spacer, which you might be able to find on Summit Racing's site or Jeg's.
