2019 tail gate step

On the 2019 models, is the tail gate flat if you have the built in step? Is the tailgate covered with a plastic cover?
Thanks

First the tailgate step is awesomeness. My 2017 tailgate is a mile up in the air its a tall truck from the factory and a BIG step to get into the bed. One of the best features I opted for. Makes getting in and out easy and safe, the tailgate step stripper pole is solid I'm a big guy both the step and pole handle the weight.

My step retracts inside of the tailgate, you would never know its there. The top of the tailgate has a plastic cap all the way across, including where the tailgate step inserts.

I agree that its a nice feature, but if Ford wanted to make these truck so tall, the step should be standard equipment.

Followed immediately by a % of buyers complaining they had to pay for the step they didn't want. On some things Ford is damned if they do damned if they don't.

For 2017, the Top of the Tail Gate, like the Bed Rails covered with a Plastic Cap. The Surface of the Tail Gate matches the Floor of the Trucks Bed.
Painted, Sprayed or covered by the optional Plastic Bed Liner.

Not sure I agree here, if its standard eqpt, there is no "extra" cost, and if someone doesn't want it, they don't have to use it. And while their at it, if a customer does order the step optionally, then Ford should include the hydraulic ram kit (to assist in lowering the gate) , these gates are heavy with all the additional hardware. I'm just thinking out loud here, would be nice if Ford did this before the competition does.

Oh you would pay for the step, the cost would be baked into the price.

lol - ever heard of there is no such thing as a free lunch? Where do you think the extra cost would come from? Ford's profits?

Precisely. Now everyone is likely paying for the development of it already, but at least not the cost of the hardware.

Cant make everyone happy. Seen someone post about the fuel tank is TOO BIG, costs to much to fill up. ???, yes. A little logic could solve that problem, some just have to complain

What's price of the factory step option? AMP Research step is generally around $269, and from what I understand gets you a little lower to the ground than factory. All I can say is that I'm happy with the AMP and use it regularly.
Bestop made a step for the last body style but has never updated to the current F250, only the F150. Too bad because they were of equal quality and about $75 cheaper than AMP, had one on my 2014 and 2016. I thought about emailing them and asking what the holdup is, but I've already got the AMP so it doesn't matter that much to me.

Glad I have the tailgate step. Use it 20 times a day. Any other step (AMP, or a corner bumper step) wouldn't work for my situation.
