why do you want to remove the FICM?

It is amazing how much better one fresh injector can make the motor run.
I read online that connections could be poor and that the ficm with the 7 screws in the middle can't be rebuilt and the ones with 4 screws can be. So I wanted to see what I have.

Alright guys so I got down to the ficm. While they were plugged in correctly they came out with no force, because each plug had a broken tab on the turbo side.

Can the clip part be replaced or am I looking at new harnesses???? :/

That is very common, new plugs are available. Some people get long zip ties and zip them in place instead.

Yeah I'm going to zip tie them. No way I'm spending the money to replace the whole harness. Right now I replaced the glow plugs on the bad side, waiting for the new harness to come in. I checked for damaged wires and didn't find anything. But I tried to free them up and inspected the #4 injectors harness from outside. Didn't look damaged. Going to replace #4 injector this week hopefully

Running around on a bad injector is a good way to develop into running around on a bad motor. Unlike a spark motor, diesel cylinders are a little picky about the quantity of fuel getting dumped into them.

Yeah I'm not driving it. The times I did have it running was for diag on the scanner and it wasn't very long. I have all the parts in order and should have them replaced this weekend. Will also be doing an oil change. I noticed there's a lot of people using 5w-40 and some say 15-40.... what's better for these 6.0's?

They're both 40 oils, 5W is better for cold climates and I tend to use it all year round.

It’s kind of a cheesy fix but you can cut a piece of heater hose to fit under the FICM plugs to hold them in place. It will lay right on the valve cover flange. If you notch it for the valve cover hold down bolt, it won’t be able to move around. Rubber is a little softer than a zip tie so maybe less chaffing.

Alright guys, so I got it running, replaced the failing injector, and glow plugs. Took it for a short drive and so far no codes yet. The issue now...

Under load my scanner under power balance is showing the passenger side injectors failing under load (driving)...while idling they are perfectly fine...

What should I look at? Or am I looking at passenger side injectors as well?

Injector just replaced was #4

Underload miss makes me think it could be fuel pressure related, have you changed Fuel Filters do you know if it has the bluespring fuel pressure regulator upgrade, It could also be a HPO issue with the dummy plugs or SCT fitting, Best way to test HPO system is to use an air compressor and fittings to pressurize the system then close the IPR valve with 12v or IDS(not sure about AE) and listen for hissing leaks. Is it hard to start when engine is warm?

Make sure the plugs in the FICM are snug

New to the diesel world :/ could I ask for no abbreviations lol. I am not sure of fuel filters changed, havnt had a chance to look. There's two right? One in the engine and one under the driver side door on the frame?

And with the hard start yes, not sure if it was something I did but I followed torque specs and sequences. When I bought it, it would start when warm almost right away but now it is cranking for like 6-8 sec before it will start up, but once it does it's fine. Cold or hot it's the same.

Also while driving the ficm showed 48.5-49 volts under load, cruising or idle. I even zip tied the plugs to the ficm, heavy duty zip ties

Take that back, I just went out to start it after sitting for 20-30 min and it fired right up.

If you had the oil rails off to change the injector, they had air inside. It can take awhile to purge it. Also it is fairly easy to Nick an oring reinstalling everything. Hope it keeps starting easily

I Was really carefull and lubricated everything before installing, I'm not new to mechanic work just new to diesels. I got a bottle of that hot shot secret stiction additive today, gunna drain some oil and add it tomorrow and see what happens. Hopefully it'll help those crappy injectors. Cross in my fingers lol
