I got a 1996 f150 with a 4.9 efi. I need to know how and what products I need to properly delete the TAB and TAD, egr, smog pump, vaccum lines, o2 sensors, seilnoids, and any other emissions related stuff. with out setting off any codes.
What I suggest doing is delete the smog pump by re routing the belt and cap off the vacuum lines going to the evap from the throttle body. Also where the exaughst bolts to the intake I just put a plate in there and sealed it with rtv. That’s all I did with mine and it runs really good and has a decent amount of power. I strongly suggest leaving all the o2 sensors and maf sensor on it because I don’t know how to bypass them and the o2 sensors tell the computer how to run the motor. There’s a couple other vacuum lines you should cap off but the big one with 4 ends on it that goes to the charcoal box is connected to the line going to the vent control on mine because the vent control hose is dry rotted on mine. Hope this helps if you need a picture just let me know and I’ll send you what I did.
Also you won’t be able to delete anything without setting off codes. I don’t notice because my engine light is burnt out but you can take it out and if you have issues with it I know on mine it throws two codes. One is for the evap sensor and the other is for something along the lines of inefficient exaughst return flow or something.
Thanks, Ive heard if you block vacuum lines of there is a seilinod that needs to be bypassed, is that something I need to do? I think its called a TAB seilinoid. Also I would be happy to see some photos of it if your not busy.
Pretty sure you can delete the smog equipment entirely so long as you leave the TAB and TAD solenoids electrically connected. A '96 has the DPFE EGR system - not sure if you can block it off successfully or not. For the record - if you're still running factory catalytic converters they need the AIR system to function or else they'll get plugged up and not work right.
You cannot delete O2 sensors or the MAF sensor - the truck EFI needs these to run right. My advice: keep the stuff there. Fix whats wrong with it and let it do its thing - Ford engineers who get paid a lot of money to think about these things think they were a good idea.

May I ask why you want to delete those parts? Is the check engine light on? What is wrong?
Removing the smog equipment on a '96, 4.9 may be a complex issue.
It is OBD2, not the archaic OBD1 system the older OBS trucks had. It was also the only year for the 4.9 to have OBD2.
i know this is an older thread and not trying to revive it but in all honesty the obd2 4.9 is actually easier to delete without setting off codes than the obd1"s i know most wont believe me but ive done it twice and im actually in the process of doing the third 1

Hey, enginefan I've been trying to find someone who's done it on a 96. I’ve been wanting to delete the emissions on my 96 4.9 3/4 ton for a long time but I've been too scared to screw it up. If you could get back to me and explain how you did it that would be great.

I don’t know anything about the dpfe but how do you remove the catalytic converter, keep the 02 sensors and not have a check engine light? What does removing the catalytic converter accomplish?
