All of these are being axed by FoMoCo? That sucks, these are all very good vehicales. Why dose ford seem to have to be first in a class or it is considered a failure. Where would companys like Isuzu, and even chrysler be if they all thought like this. They just need to sit back and forcast better. I here the t-bird is being axed also..STUPID!!! That car kicks @ss...
I believe that the main problem these vehicles are not selling is due to the price, not the demand. The Maurader is a great hot rod but for the price, why? Same for the T-bird. Why pay that much money for something that can't come close to what the original was intended for. The Excursion is just too big, which makes it a personal favorite of mine. Better to have and not need, than to need and not have.
What they should do is sell excursions but only in a limited number. They are fairly popular but they arent selling theat much. Cutback on production but keep it on line.
Something happened last month that should have put the fear of God in GM, Ford, and Chrysler: Toyota moved into the number 3 spot in sales, AHEAD of Chrysler. How did they do it? Simple- they're giving today's customers what they want. Well-built, well-engineered vehicles that are reliable, and they LAST. They sure didn't become number 3 by giving their vehicles away with ridiculously huge rebates. Have you ever seen a $4,000 rebate on a Toyota? Of course not- they don't need to. Yet Detroit continues to cry about the huge rebates they have to offer to move their iron. I though they learned their lesson in the 70's and 80's. I guess they have to learn it all over again, 'cause the Japanese are kicking their butts. If Ford knew what it was doing, they wouldn't have to keep dumping models. Look at Honda- 25 years ago, you could walk into a Honda showroom and buy a Civic or an Accord. They're STILL selling them, and in record numbers! No need to discontinue those cars because of the name and reputation those cars have earned. Another lesson for Ford to learn.....

I really thought at least the Marauder would sell well. It's an awsome car. A few days ago I saw an ad in my local newspaper of local Mercury dealer selling brand new Marauders for 19.995! just to get rid of them.
I've heard the others mentioned are going, but not the Mountaineer. I highly doubt that too, as it seems to be selling well and is part of the rebirth of Mercury.
The Aerostar van was selling close to 100,000 vehicles a year when they axed it. Some of its worse sales years were better than the Chevy S-10s best years.
Why was it axed, because it was based on old technology, it was not as profitable per $1,000 as the newer Windstar, and was eating into other vehicle sales. So ... you can still not buy an AWD/4x4 seven passenger van/mini-van from Ford.
Excursion sales have been very slow and I would bet people not buying one would probably look at an Expedition or 4 door Super Duty instead. Just one of those profit lines a vehicle ends up crossing in bad times that gets it the axe.
Actually I can see why the Maurader is gone, it wasn't a whole lot faster then the average police special (if at all) and all that hype with little delivery turned people off. Nothing like pulling up to a 10 year old Impala and getting your doors blowed off. If they wanted to make it sell they should have put the 32V 5.4 in it or the V10 (both fit with no problems). They would have had a something that seperated it from the Gran Marquis that grandma drives, and had the power to run down the little riced imports and even a Mustang GT (if V10 equipped). It would also have given them another outlet for the V10 so they could get some enconomies of scale going to make the engine cheaper. Imagine the advertising, the only other American car with a V10 is a Viper.
My dad still talks about the 76 LTD he had with a 460 4barrel in it, could get a squawk out the tires at 55 if you punched it hard enough, now he drives a Taurus because there's hardly a power differance in it and a Crown Vic. Young and old are attracted to cars with power, not decals and paint schemes.
I hope mercury keeps the mounty also, it is a viable alternitive to the much more hyped explorer.
I mean look at Gm they rehash the trailblazer platform like 5 times or so..Envoy, Raineer, acender & now there is going to be a caddy off this platform also.
So Ford should keep the mounty in the merc lineup, It is a very nice truck!!
As for a V-10 bronco, wow that would be nice. Even an old explorer sport with the 5.4L would kick ***....
