oil pressure "gauge"

OK, so I'm about to hook up an aftermarket electrical oil pressure gauge to my 88 5.0. Ford suggests putting a 20 ohm resistor between the stock switch and the gauge to eliminate the major fluctuation in the reading that most people have. My problem is, if I am installing a new electrical sender and a new gauge, what do I connect the stock gauge to so the engine light won't come on. Do I connect it to the new sender with the 20 ohm resistor or will that interfere with the reading on the aftermarket gauge?

why are you going electric, a manual gauge would be alot more acurate. but to each his own i guess. just ground that wire somewhere and you wont get the engine light on.

I've heard otherwise from several different people. Plus, I've had the mechanical style on my oldies...too messy/dangerous. Besides, anything is better than what I have.

Just ground the stock sender wire. The 20 ohm resistor is already in the stock circuit. It is only there to make the needle point in the middle when there is oil pressure. The stock sender is only an on-off switch, not a true sender. If the resistor wasn't there, the needle would go all the way to high, not stay in the middle. An aftermarket setup does not use a resistor.
