Just found this forum looking for MPG hints for my motor home and saw a meessage from Monsta about a fan clutch. I can't find any follow up. Monsta, What were you talking about?
I think he was refering to the cyclone fan clutch I think that what is called. It basicaly is a electric fan clutch that shuts off your fan like on a semi. I think usgear.com sell them.
I've been doing some testing on fan drives - replacing the engine driven fan with an electric fan - on a 5.3L Tahoe. On the EPA tests the electric fan can improve your fuel economy by 0.5 mpg. I would think the electric fan clutch will do about the same or slightly less.
To go to a full-electric system a different radiator will be required (larger, higher fin density, more capacity). The up-side is that you will get much better A/C performance at idle and in city traffic. With the proper radiator it won't reduce your trailing capacity either.
