Front hubs are set in auto mode
When I turn the **** in the truck to engage 4 hi or 4 low the front axle does not engage. I have to get out and manually lock the hubs. What should I be looking for to correct this problem
I've had to fix 2 vacuum line leaks on my 16 f250. They weren't worth going to the dealer for. But the dealer did have to replace both spindle seals. The truck is out of warranty now, and it's not auto engaging again. Luckily, the spindle seals have a 12k/12 month warranty. I found both my vacuum line leaks pretty easy, but a smoke machine is needed to diagnose the seals.
You can just get a vacuum gauge and work your way down (or up) the line. I pulled the line of the reservoir and could hear the vacuum. So I reconnected it the pulled the line off the back of the hub. Plugged the vacuum gauge in. No vacuum felt down the line and found the passenger side was crispy and brittle near the exhaust. I went to auto parts store and picked up 3 feet of line and some fittings (cheap). Replaced the the line got reading on the gauge. Put line back on the hub 4x4 success . I'm going to replace the other line where it goes of the frame rail near the exhaust manifold. My truck is an 07 and I'm sure both those lines went thru quite a few heat cycles.
