Hello! Complete Ford Newb!
Let me introduce myself,
My name is Andy, 22 years old, born, raised, and probably will stay in Phoenix, Arizona. Im a gearhead through and through, working on vehicles my whole life, from hot rods, race cars, drift cars, diesel pickups, 4x4s, tuner Hondas, and of course, DIRT. Im actually in the middle of building a 1999 XJ Cherokee that my parents bought brand new, turning it into a 4wd mild trail rig. Plus my biggest passion during the winter is sand dunes, I have a 2016 Yamaha YFZ450r that I bought brand new! Ive gone to school to be a collision technician, and worked in a few body shops, but right now Im well on my way to be a heavy equipment mechanic.
Like the title says, Im a complete Ford Newb! I grew up working on Chevys and Jeeps. My current (and VERY TIRED) daily driver is a 2000 Silverado 1500 5.3 that Ive driven every day for three years. I, being the young man that I am, is getting tired of my current truck, and have been day dreaming about getting something older with more street cred. But being the low man on the totem poll, making just enough money to live, couldn't afford the c10 that I was thinking of. So, by chance, out of one question trying to make small talk with my grandfather, he offered to sell me a 1981 F150 Ranger for $600, and I bought it!
The truck is very clean, considering the age. 118,000 original miles, original paint with absolutely no major damage except for a very small dent behind the driver side rear tire. Interior is spotless, for being 37 years old. 302 and AOD. Single cab long bed. complete with all the old man trinkets.
Now comes the bad, its stock ride height, and I like my 2wds low, and it makes approx. 133 horses! Ive been lurking on here, and a couple of sbf forums and I think I know how to make enough power to be happy with ( Id hope for 250 hp) with gt40 heads, cam specs that I cant remember, obviously intake, 4 barrel carb, and exhaust. You know, the daily haul and occasional drive to Glamis with my minimal camping gear and I. My biggest thing that Im lost with is lowering it, nothing big, just a 2/4 drop. Im fine with cut springs, Im just lost when it comes to beams!
Anyway, just thought Id introduce myself. Have a great night!
