Finally got around to installing the Altman latches which I have had a good while. Anyway, I expected to see stainless plates but found out that was not the case. I had a friend who has access to a company that does laser cutting so he had them cut me some. Meaning that I have two extra sets that ,of course, I have no use for. If anyone here is planning on installing the Altman latches if you will message me with your address I will send a set to you. Please make sure you will use them. Here is how they look.
I am in the process (I mean right now) of installing my Altman latches. I have not painted my truck yet, so I am trying to decide whether or not to trim and weld in the plate (a la CharlieLED). They will be painted to match the door, so I won’t need stainless.
Stainless was a great idea. Yours look great and stainless would really be good for a previously painted truck. The latches really are as great as they say. Quality product for sure. I’m adding the driver’s side lock block too and power lock actuators.
I have the Altman locks on my 56 and although the function well they are useless without the power actuators for locking and unlocking the doors. The original design by Ford were much better in the way you could lock and unlock the door. The only advantage to the Altman 's is the bare-claw latches..
Looks good Joe, nice touch offering up the spares.
I have been working on the 40, trial fitting sheetmetal in prep for final paint and assembly. Altman latches on this car are a BIG improvement over the OEM setup.
That is going to be one great 40 Chuck, I sure enjoy mine. My 40 has about 35,000 miles on it now with a fair supply of rock chips but it got a " Forever 40's" pic at Goodguys Texas Motor Speedway event [Lone Star]. Sorry to say, I could not stay for Sunday so I had to give it back. Only award that it has gotten, of course that has never been my goal. I just love driving em. I put a Tbird IRS under my 53 F100 and now am getting ready to switch to the Ford Racing rear hubs for the 5 on 41/2 bolt pattern. Trying to decide if I want to switch to discs on the rear, it came with drums which have worked fine but I will have to replace the drums since I had drums and hubs driller for Chevy pattern. In my original build on the truck I used a Chevy rear. Anyway, got a tip on firewall mounted m/c and booster?

Never knew you had a 40, have you ever posted pics of it..?

Joe, I have an 86 Lincoln MK8 IRS with all the upgrades out in the barn. My intent was to put it under my 50 Merc but that project has been sold. I didn't realize how much was different on the IRS setups over the "standard" Ford rearends. I bought the Cobra disk brake rotors, the brackets to space the calipers out, the FRRP kit car hubs and bearings, and the 3.73 gears with upgraded trac-loc carbon fiber clutch kit. My MK8 IRS came with discs but they are tiny and have metric lug spacing. On my 56 F100 I installed a hyroboost setup for the brakes and kept them on the floor. On the 40 I installed an electric vacuum pump/reservoir and kept the floor mounted pedal and booster.
Here is a pic of the Altman latch install on the 40 door...welding in the plate was easy compared to getting a stock (repop) door handle to fit correctly.
Nice work [as usual] Chuck. For John, here is my 40, a lot more simple build than Chuck's 40. This is my favorite picture of it taken in Santa Fe NM. For Ben, good luck with that.
