Why are you not going after a 75 or older F-250 highboy? Price point, personal preference on the ride or ????
My 73 F-250 4x4 has been up for sale for a few weeks and had a lot of interest. (buyer comes to get it tomorrow) There are a few other pre 75 4x4's for sale in LA. At least one is overpriced. What the pre smog 4x4's are priced at and what they are actually selling for seems to be quite a spread.
Not to hijack or anything, but out of curiosity, how much of the truck has to be pre-76 to be considered a 75 or older? I mean, if you found a chassis from a 75 and threw a bunch of 78 stuff on top of it, is it still considered a 75 in California?
Hijacking is fine, fire away.
If it is titled as pre76, you can do whatever you want, pretty much. You can throw any body on a 75 and older drivetrain and you are set. The problem is, even a title pre76 frame is overpriced, lol.
I am rethinking this whole idea. Why am I in a rush? Even finding a stock air cleaner in good condition is almost impossible. They are usually cracked up the sides. Then you can’t just go get a new carb, you have to hope your smog legal original is rebuildable and that the throttle plates are out of round causing leaks. Or you need a transducer or amplifier, both obselete. Then get your PVSs figured out and vac hoses run. The egr spacer plate is burned through? Good luck with that.
It would have to pass initial California smog testing here, with original equipment. But, a nonCalifornia resident drove that here, they could go register it without a smog test.
That is true, Silkwillie, but my skillset isn’t really of value unless I have a steady supply of millionaires as customers. Gotta take the bad with the good. Plus, we don’t have snow unless we want to find it, and no humidity to speak of.
Clarification on 75 or older - you do not need a smog check on sale from out of state. But you will need a vin check and weight certificate. My crew cab is from out of state and I did everything by the book. I also checked the CA DMV rules as well before I purchased the truck to be sure.
