You can get almost every option on the Lariat that you can get on the platinum. The biggest difference is the massaging seats, painted bumpers, and the badging if you build them similar. Basically the platinum has most of the features standard.
They can be equipped almost identically with the exception of unique wheels and grille, painted bumpers, Platinum badging, massaging seats, unique leather upholstery, black headliner, and a few other interior niceties like the platinum embossed sill plates and brushed metal trim pieces. It will cost you $4000 + for the Platinum goodies.
I planned on special ordering my F-350 and wanted an almost fully-loaded Lariat. I ended up buying off the lot and could't find a Lariat with all of the options I wanted, so I ended up going with the Platinum because they come standard with a lot of the options I wanted to add to the Lariat.
Don't forget the Platinum has that huge tailgate badge saying what it is.
Oddly enough, that's why I wanted my Lariat. Its all vanity I guess but the Platinum had just too much chrome and bling on it. I'm a little more subtle I guess.
The seats feel quite different in the different trucks. I recommend sitting in each before deciding. I found that the active motion seats in the KR and the seats in the XLT were much more comfortable than the others. I wanted a higher trim, so I went with the KR. I use the active motion feature every day.
This the second Platinum I have purchased. I really like the Platinum Ultimate Package. The seats are amazing. The new duallies are fantastic tow vehicles. You can't go wrong no matter how you option them, but I believe the Platinum interior is hard to beat.
I will probably choose a loaded up 2020 Lariat over the Platinum or Limited, mainly because I want the two tone paint and chrome bumpers.
Im hoping there may be some model changes in 2020. I really like the Limited interior, but I can’t do the painted bumpers. Living in western NY, those nice painted bumpers will get chipped all to hell from road salt and other winter junk.
Years ago you had to get a truck in the Platinum trim level to get the higher end options; like power running boards for example. Recently with the newer trucks they changed this and added those higher end items as available options to the Lariat & KR's. I'm the type of person who usually want's every single option and the highest trim, but this go-around, I opted for a Lariat w/ the actual options I wanted like the Ultimate Package, LED's, power running boards and NO chrome package.
Not to mention, it seems like 80% of the trucks I see on the road are either a Platinum, KR or XL work truck. So the fact that I see fewer optioned out Lariats, made me want one a little more.
WOW, that is a LOT of chrome for a NO chrome package option!
I guess, if you consider the chrome grille and bumpers a LOT of chrome..
The chrome package adds chromr door handles, mirror caps, PVD wheels and lower window trim. If you want less chrome, then your only factory offering that has less than what my truck has, would be a KR without the chrome package since it adds painted bumpers.

You forgot the chrome front tow hooks ... I like you wanted all the bells and whistles but didn't want the power running boards and don't like the appearance of the tailgate, but I wanted the chrome..
Mine is a lariat ultimate with the LED lights, CHROME PACKAGE Moon roof, Heated rear seat ultimate trailer tow, fifth wheel and goose neck package, spray in liner....
