Hello all,
I signed up years ago. Yet here I am just now introducing myself. I am a life long Ford/ Mercury/ Continental man. My father before me didn't know much about Henry Ford but he didn't need to because he was convinced God himself created the Ford Motor Company. I have no proof but I suspect he may have been one of the people who originated the Ford/ Chevy feud.
I haven't used the forum much as I have a 1977 F-150 Ranger that I haven't had much time to work on.
My son has a (new to him) 2005 F-250 super duty and I'm sure we are going to be of need of your members expertise. I am happy to be part of your community. Ford trucks rule do they not?
Hello, I'm a new owner of a stock 2001 ford EX XLT, gas V8, with 101K miles. I would have loved a diesel, but they were way out of my price range, triple what I paid with 250+K on them. I know the engine will go forever but they are still a Ford chaise, LOL. There are many reasons I bought an EX but the main is we are a family of 6 needing the extra room for weekend play at the beach or the occasional snow play at the mountain. We really do not need the 4-wheel drive for what we do, do not go off-roading, but why would you want a 2x4 EX and limit your options. We want to buy an RV trailer eventually (21' - 27') and knew that the Gas V8 would be somewhat of an issue driving over the coastal range the 3 times a year we are able to get away for camping. I search high and low for a truck that had not been beat on or lifted because other pleasures are Kayaking on our local rivers and lakes. Getting 3 kayaks on top of the EX is a height challenge for me.I bought the EX in Seattle from a dealer and drove it home to PDX in a monsoon. The windshield wipers were worn out, the tires were underinflated, the more I drove the EX the looser it got, I had one hell of a time keeping her on the road, my top speed was 45 MPH, and it took 2 days for the blood to return to my white knuckles. I parked the truck for two weeks while I suffered from buyer’s remorse. Once I got off my **s and did a lot of the research I found I was not alone. My EX has the typical issues like wandering and loose steering and hitting a manhole cover sounds like the front-end is falling off when it bottoms out. The first thing I did was add a rear Hellwig sway bar to it and it helped a lot taking out the tail wagging the dog. However, I'm still having issues with the wondering issues at highway speeds.I have read several posts here on FTE and my head is about to explode. There are several options to fix Fords mistake on weak suspension.: air bags, multiple spring swap out (V/B code, X code B/U code, partial take off of EX combined with Super Duty, ProComp, Helper springs, air bags, and many more.I know that I’m not alone in this wandering issue, but I have not been able to find a post/thread that deals with a 2001 gas V8. My concerns are the weight differences of my truck versus the V10, 7.3 or the 6.0 trucks. The spring selection may work for them but not me. Can someone point me to the right thread?
