Yes, It's a very awful feeling when that pedal sinks.
All the more important to make sure your E-Brake works.

btw,
A strait is a body of water between to pieces of land.
As in, the Georgia Strait.

Just add a gh to it to get ****Straight****

I had the same thing happen in a School Bus I was driving once going down a steep but short hill. Thankfully there were no passengers on at the time and no cross traffic. I did grab a gear, yank on the ebrake, and kept stabbin the pedal for brakes. I got it stopped and flagged down another bus going to the barn to get the shop mechanic to come out and get it.

older vehicles had single reservoir master cylinders. When you lose the system, you totally lose the system.

modern vehicles also have mc failure at about the same rate as the old vehicles. that dual reservoir is the 'back up' system in case the primary fails.

keep your ebrakes functional whether you drive new or old.

It's not unusual here in the Rust Belt for a brake line to rot through- it happened to me a couple weeks ago with my '94 Ranger, and last spring with the '89 Grand Marquis. It's a good thing my dad taught me how to use the parking brake as an emergency brake: pull the release lever out and hold it out while pumping the parking brake pedal. It don't come close to a real brake in effectiveness, but it's better than nothing!

1956MarkII, I learned that trick too. I however stand on the pedal instead of pumping it. I had the master cylinder piston seal fail on me last winter in traffic. Complete loss of the hydraulics. Talk about scary.

I had the same thing happen on my 88 Camry, except when i was getting off the freeway, so it was the weirdest feeling. I just pumped the breaks like crazy and grabbed the E-break.
