i want to do a egr delete and def delete with the turbo back exhaust and tuner but is it possible to do this without voiding the warranty? I plan on keeping the parts and reinstalling them if I need warranty work done but I am reading some cheats advertise not traceable on the ecm. But Is that true? And the only ones I noticed that are not traceable mention they leave all the emmisons In place so it leads me to think if I delete it it’s goig to be traceable on the ecm which would void my warranty
Dealer master technicians have said ECM modifications are traceable but I don't have first hand experience so take that for what it's worth. For the components that are impacted with a tune, you are responsible for paying to fix those items if something were to fail as a result of the modifications. You'll have a warranty for other items such as if your radio or power seat fails which has nothing to do with an ECM or TCM modification. Some dealers may determine the failed component has nothing to do with the modifications and will work with you. Other dealers may simply reject the repair. If you want this expensive truck fully supported by the warranty, do not modify it. Otherwise, if a component fails because you added 150 HP, you have chosen to take on that responsibility.
In the event something fails, that's a lot of work. While removing the DPF obviously wouildn't cause an engine failure, the DPF can't be removed without code modifications to the ECM and now that's a variable with the engine that Ford could use against you in a warranty claim. It may be worth talking with the service manager at your dealer to understand their policies and limitations and if they would work with you, such as investigate as normal then make a decision as to what failed and how. Even with a great to work with dealer, you still need to be prepared that the repair of the modified component is fully your responsibility. However, when it comes to federal and state emissions components being removed (even though these trucks run better), you'll be on your own.
Folks running high HP (as an example), breaking something either because of negligence or just unfortunate with a weak component unable to handle the additional stress and then wanting the manufacturer to repair their playing is one of I'm sure many reasons the GM L5P ECM is the way it is. Ford will follow with encryption (to further reduce "cheating" as one of the benefits to them and their intellectual property (the code)) and I suspect that'll be in a few years, if not the 2020MY.
