MWM 4.2 Ltr Diesel
G'day Fellas,
Anyone know anything about the RPM pick up on the 4.2 Ltr MWM Diesel.
These donks were fitted to the F250 trucks made in Brazil and imported in Australia and many other countries outside continental USA.
A mate of mine has one and the Tacho is not working. Actual Tacho has been tested as ok, so it must be the sensor/pick up.
I believe it is on the back side of the fuel pump?
Has anyone changed one or bought one?
Who is the best supplier of parts for these Donks?
I've put this on the Aussie site as well.
Cheers,
Reg

I don't actually own the 4.2 but a mate of mine does and has asked me to try and find out a solution to this Tacho issue.
But he tells me it chews no more than the 100 series Toyota (he has two of those as well).
The reason he runs the F truck for all his outback running is it's carrying capacity and better ride.
He is brutal on the beast and if there were anyone to use as proof of these MWM 4.2 Ltr (6.07) Sprint Diesels and their toughness and reliability then he is it.
His has done near 400k km of tough running and it has never let him down. They are very well matched to the 5 speed ZF gearbox.
Cheers,
Reg

Most of the MWM engines are 50's designs best suited for "emerging economies", AKA third world countries. The are relatively low friction, low injection pressure designs with few modern features and limited emission control capability, but do the job in the markets they serve.

I’ll update the comment to say that the current MWM offerings are, for the most part, updated versions of engines that originated with 1960s designs. They have redesigned the heads to 3 and 4 valve variants, and added common rail fuel systems and modern after treatment to meet current emission but still make the old versions on the same lines for unregulated applications.
The Sprint series is an updated version of the old Land Rover engine, re-engineered about 10 years ago with the help of either FEV in Auburn Hills, or AVL in Plymouth (Mi). I don’t remember which.
The Action Series are rehashes of ancient MWM engines from the fifties or sixties, again with modern cylinder heads and fuel systems for Euro V
the 10 Series, I don’t know, but they are all Euro lll and two valves, so they don’t seem to be exactly cutting edge.
the 13 liter engine sounds like the MAN derived engine produced by Navistar, who owns MWM. The engine may be locally assembled in Brazil because of local content laws.
