Question

Automatic overdrive engaging

I have an 2WD 84 Ford Explorer p'up which cannot figure out whether it wants to be in overdrive or not. Anywhere between 55 - 70 miles, it drops in and out on about 10 - 20 second intervals. No rhyme or reason. I was told that this was an early model overdrive, and to get use to it. I cant imagine these trucks were produced with this bad a problem?

maybe it is the modulator on the side of the tranny

...just guessing ..have you checked the fluids? mine used to do that till I added some...couldn't even see it on the dipstick
