Seeing as how it will be a bit of time until the 5.8 project gets underway (That project keeps getting placed on the back burner.), I'm thinking about headers for the 5.0. I remember a while back I saw comments saying that the Summit truck headers SUM-G9035 were the same as the Pacesetter 70-1322 and fit rather well. Is this still true? Are there any fitment issues with the stock Y pipe? Also does anyone other than Bassani make a Y pipe for 3 inch exhaust preferably without cats since I may use my own? I might consider the Bassani Y if it can be made to fit up to 5.8 Headers easily, but I don't see that being the case. If the headers were interchangeable I'd go ahead and get JBA, but the configuration and EGR are different.
If you plan to swap a 5.8, best to wait to buy a y pipe because the 5.0 and 5.8 y pipes are not the same. You can still bolt on the shorties if you want.
Is it possible to use 5.8 shorties with the stock 5.0 Y pipe and just not connect the EGR since it is done differently? I'm not sure in what year the 5.8 will finally get built. I started one for my old truck and then sold everything including the truck. Then I got this truck and then got another 5.8, but so much stuff comes up and I just never get around to working on the engine project. Who knows if it will ever get done. Lol...
That is good to hear. I thought maybe the orientation of the pipes coming up from the Y pipe was slightly different between 5.0 and 5.8, and thought maybe they wouldn't mate up to the header collectors.
