Are you absolutely sure about that, what is the trans code on the drivers door pillar?
The AOD is all mechanical and if it is not shifting correctly the problem is going to be something mechanical is broken inside the trans, but I have never heard of one shifting 1st to 4th it is more likely to shift into a neutral where the other gears are supposed to be. The other 2 transmissions that were available for these trucks are computer controlled and they could potentially make this shift pattern if the computer senses something wrong, that doesn't rule out something being wrong inside the trans but there could also be an electronic cause for it. So first lets figure out exactly what trans you have and then proceed to pulling codes if it turns out you don't actually have an AOD.
