I have a 1990 xlt super cab ranger 2wd that weighs 2500lbs
with engine(lots of mods). It has a 351w 4sp toploader ported heads 9.5:1 compresion 4.56 gears it puts out 450hp@5400rpm
and 477ftlbs@ 3200rpm and Mickey 10.5 dot slicks
i know a guy who i work with in the summers has an 84 reg cab
2wd with a 302 and C-4 out of a Thunderbird and headers
he says he can woop me and he has 3.55 gears what do ya'll say
other then the headers the engine is stock
well i sure hope you can take him. his reg cab weighs less but the difference between the 302 and "your" 351 should more then make up the few houndred pound weight difference. if not i say drop a 302 from a tbird in yours. theres only one way to find out tho, take em to a strip and let em run. then let me know the results cause i would love to know what your truck runs haha. if i had to guess i bet it dips on the 12's maybe.
Seems like with the 4.56 gears that you will have to shift sooner and possibly more, making it harder to keep the tires hooked up to the pavement. Even if he gets a jump on you while you're spinning, you should easily be able to overtake him. Just curious, how come you went with 4.56's with that kind of power? Oughta see if he'd like to hook bumpers with you, then you can really show him what a 351 can do.
