Fuel flow meter..
I'm pondering the use of a fuel flow meter to calculate miles per gallon but realized this probably won't work with EFI because the fuel pressure regulator uses a return line, am i thinking correctly ?

Yes. If you want an fuel milage calculation based on fuel delivery you need to get into the PCM and use injector duty cycle, tuner software typically does this as part of the package.
