Need some info on Stereo installation on my new 2003 Expedition. I cannot deal with that piece of crap that come with the truck any longer. I have purchased a new CD/MP3 player with all the necessary installation kits and wiring harness. My question is: Does the dash on the 03 Expy snap out like the older models (1999)? What about the new vents, it looks as if the dash would get caught on the new vents? Any info would be appreciated.
Under the dash, by the guages there are two bolts. Remove both. Work around clockwise and the dash pannel pops off. Unplug each of the switches/dials from the rear...some can be tricky.
This is what you will see inside, minus the XM radio and mount...
There are two screws at the bottom of the radio, and it slides right out.
What features will I loose if I replace the POS factory unit? For example, I like that the unit stays on after the key is off until I open the door. I like the rear console controls. I don't use the dual media option much, but it might be nice on a longer trip.
Are there any after market options that will still work with some of these features?
ok here is what you will lose. you lose the rear center console controls. you lose the steeringwheel controls but you can get that back with a module(i have it in my 03 eddie bauer expy works great. you will not lose the delay off feature because you are still using the same power source if you have any more question i can be reached @ drummer793(No Email Addresses In Posts!)
I got my Sony Xplod and removed the factory unit. Problem is I have been to two different places and they keep trying to tell me that the 7701 is the wiring harness for this car. It is not. Does anyone know what wiring harness will work and which plug is used on an aftermarket system. Need help fast.
I don't know that I can help you with the specific wiring harness number, but I recently went through something similar while trying to get the correct wiring harness for my aftermarket stereo. The Good Guys and Circuit City both didn't seem to have the correct one - finally a trip to Best Buy paid off, as their install department had what I needed, though it may or may not be the same as what you need. My Expedition is a 98, and has the Premium system, but without the subwoofer. The wiring harness was actually two separate harnesses - one for the power related wires, and one for the speakers. I also installed a JL Stealthbox subwoofer and an amp under the passenger seat to power it - very nice sounding system!
Good luck - if I can dig up the wrapper for the harness that I used, I will post the info - I believe it was made by Scoche.
