As part of my monitor all the things on this truck, I just added a fuel pressure gage to the CTS2. Went with a generic stainless 0-100psi sensor. Got it all hooked up and had about 25psi pressure. Thinking ok, it must be the sensor, I checked with a mechanical gauge, which read the same. Truck runs fine, but this freaked me out. Half splitting it, I pulled the inlet to the pump, put some diesel in a fuel jug and got the same pressure, so that puts it at pump, or lines from pump, or regulator. Since I have a blue spring kit I didn't install, that was next step. Pulled the housing cover off and found the problem, pressure regulator piston was stuck in the bore. I was able to extract it and clean the bore of all the gunk. The seal on the piston was also gone, along with that little air bleed at the top. Cleaned everything out, put it back together with new parts out of the kit and now I have 65psi.
What gets me is the truck ran fine, pulled fine and showed no symptoms. So just a heads up, and it's something easy to check. Piston was stuck, spring full of gunk, bore full of crud. Truck usually sat for long periods before I got it, as it went from a daily driver to a desert toy hauler.
