ok, This is my first post
my starter had been making horrible grinding sounds and I knew it was on its last legs. I thought , well I will look into this weekend , but alas, it stopped working last night. When I turned the key it just went whirrrrrrrrrr, spinning but not engaging the flywheel I assume. I got under there and noticed it was really really loose. I tightened the bolts and still same thing happened. I put on a new starter and now it clicks but doesnt start the engine. I read my haynes guide which says its probably the battery. I put in a battery I know is good and the relay started Smoking? I am going today to get a new relay and a new battery to starter wire. I saw alot of similar topics but I never saw a smoking relay issue. What is going on with this thing? Thanks
ok, I changed the starter, the solinoid/relay, and all 3 cables . I grond the the G-wire directly to the frame......here is the thing, last night at 2 am when I tried to put a different battery in I was in a hurry since I was working at 2 am in the ghetto, and I wanted my truck safe at home, I accidentily hooked up the battery backwards and now everything is dead. I checke the fuses in the fuse block - all good there. I know there is a fusable link on the ignition wire near the relay but I cant find it. What did I cook? the fusable link? What am I missing?
