Engine Tranny Swap
I just recently aquired a 1984 F150 XLT with a 5.8L 351 and it has a tranny out of a F250 in it. Its not drivable as the body is completely shot. I would like to transfer the engine and tranny to my 1990. Can anyone offer any assistance if this is feasible. I dont have to worry about emissions or inspections. Thanks.
Both are 2 wd. The 84 is a extended cab and my 90 is a short cab longbed.
Thanks
PS my E40D slips alot. thats why i was asking.
New motor mounts(no big deal but you have to get them for a 351 in a 1990
Tranny mounts all depends on what tranny is with the 351
Fuel pumps are a big issue(carb'd can't handle the fuel pressure EFI needs) so you would have to put a regulator to drop it back down to 4-8psi
If the tranny with the 351 isn't computerized, no big deal there, but if it is you'll need the computer to go with it
Lastly, you'll probably need a new driveshaft made
This is what I would think is involved, at a minimum.
Most trannies have different lengths of tail shafts from one another. Also, I saw somewhere that a extended cab shortbed and a standard cab longbed are not identical wheel bases. I don't know on that, but I was basing on the fact that the length of a E4OD and a C6 are more than likely different.
