I've been looking for a new set of tires. The tire shop I usually use only had two models with a E weight rating, the steeltexs and the Cooper Discoverers. Im not a big fan of the steeltexs and the shop owner said he got alot of complaints about the coopers wearing out too fast. I would like to go with a large tire, nothing smaller than 265/75. Preferably slightly larger, NOT looking to make a monster though. Any suggestions ?
I have always used Cooper as my replacement tire. I currrently have the Discoverer A/T 265/75/16 E rating on my F250. I couldn't be happier with their performance all around.
One other question, do I have to go with a E load tire? Can I get away with a D. I was looking at a 285/75/16 that I really liked but it only came in D
Lots of folks have said they run Ds in the postings I have read previously. I'm sure it all depends on your towing loads. The tires will give you load ratings. The big difference is the sidewall stiffness and the plys I think. The E sidewall stiffness does give you a rougher ride than passenger tires. I went with the Es because I didn't want to compromise any safety when I'm pulling my camper with the wife and kids.
I just found a set I really really like. Bridgestone dueler A/T revo 285/75/16. Although they are only a D load rating because of the larger size they have a almost equivalent weight capacity. They have a real aggressive A/T pattern but from the reviews I could find they are decently quit. The bonus is they have a 50000 mile warranty. I got a price of $153 a piece mounted and balanced
