So, my 302 has been running rough for a while now, & I've tried almost everything I can think of that would cause it, with each parts replacement making it a little better, but not actually fixing it. I replaced the plugs & wires less than a year ago, then more recently I've replaced the air filter, IAC valve, fuel filter, EGR, Oxygen sensor, tried a new MAP sensor, & did the distributor cap & rotor this morning. Other issues have fixed themselves in the process, but I still feel a light miss while driving (especially around 1500 RPM) & roughness while idling probably about 80% of the time. Just want to see what suggestions y'all have. I plan on pulling plugs later today & checking them out, but I'm running out of ideas. I've pulled codes, only got the "111" all clear code, & I figure the engine running test would've caught the TPS if that was the issue.
Make sure the plug wires are properly routed and separated to prevent cross-fire. A Ford TSB from Steve83 on the subject: 1987-93 5L Plug Wire Routing
Shouldnt be cross-firing, I made sure to route everything so that 2 & 4 aren't touching, and 7 & 8 aren't either. I'll check again to make sure though.
Be sure you are using the correct firing order: 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
1994 and later 5L engines use: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
Not the first time someone has done that. Also a possibility someone installed a later model 5L engine, therefore if you are using the old firing order on a newer engine it will run rough/miss.
