I think Batman7777 is asking what makes you think it is a fuel-related issue.
With you talking about it "violently reengaged into drive" makes it sound like a transmission issue.
Do you have any more symptoms? Does the truck re-start? How does it idle after it's sat for awhile? Is the SES light still on? Did you get any codes?
There's a lot of possibilities for what this could be. Many smart people over in the 1999-2003 7.3L forum that can help. I recommend posting over there or having a moderator move this thread to the 7.3L forum as that's where you will get the most help.
