well i can't pass a gas station with my 300 either........it must be a ford thing lol.........long lasting but gas guzzling........costs me about 100 dollars a week to drive around.
You guys have been a great help and source of information, thank you all for your input. One more question for now: I just found a 1992 extended cab F-250 4x4 with a 351, auto, and pretty much everything I want. It has 180K on the clock and sounds great. I don't know if the tranny has been rebuilt or not, and I am sure if it hasn't it is nearing the end of it's life. (I think it's an E4AOD.) How much are they to rebuild, and how many more miles can I expect from the engine, assuming the compression check turns out okay? The guy only wants $5500 for it, and it seems like a pretty good deal to me. Any thoughts?
show up with 5 grand cash.........people see cash and go looney so he'll prolly take the five hundred less.....then run it til it breaks and with the saved money u can rebuild whatever needs it.
Sounds like pretty good deal. With the 2 or 3 grand you'll be saving you can get the tranny rebuilt and some engine upgrades. Do what TruckFreak said and you'll probably get it.
From what I have seen, the 460 doesn't get that bad of gas mileage in comparison to the 351. I know someone with a 460 Auto 4x4 3/4 ton reg cab. He has a bunch of tools and a lot of towing accesories on it and still gets 12mpg. And im almost positive that is with 4.10 gears. It is an early model '97 so that might have a little bit better than an older one. My 302 gets 15 on the highway. (and that is babying it at 60mph) I think I would trade 460 performance for the wieny 3 more mpg that I get. Maybe it saves me 150 bucks over 1 year....MAYBE I would say my engine in that same 3/4 ton truck would get at best 10. Probably less.
