I have an NP435 tranny in my 78 truck. The problem is the shifter rattles like mad and is enough to drive you crazy in a short period of time. I can quiet the noise almost to silenlence by putting pressure on it toward the seat. Does any have ideas on how to fix or minimize teh noise????
P.S. it isn't the shifter **** (took it off, still rattled)
My 75 does the same thing, I have to hook a bungee cord around it when I'm on the freeway.
I have read that it may be caused by the teflon buttons on the shift forks being damaged or missing. I think I am going to tear into the tranny and replace the bearing and syncros this winter. $700 is too much to spend to have a pro do it for me, when the kit is only $175!
