Angry A/C Problem 2.7 Ecoboost

Hello All,
I have a 2018 F150 with 2.7. Only 4,000 miles on the truck. Recently past couple days A/C has been not working and the truck fans have been running non-stop. Like turn truck off and turn it back on in the morning and they come right on.
Truck has been running fine and no issues up to this. I checked the fuses and found a couple loose, added a little coolant. So not sure which it was but then A/C started working. Turned truck on this morning to same thing happening yet again. I drive highway speeds 60-75mph. Something is wrong but not sure what to check on this. Heat works perfectly fine btw. So when you change from cool to hot it changes almost immediately. I read some trucks came without r-134a but that wouldn't make any sense as A/C has been running perfectly. Thoughts or suggestions? I do plan on bringing to the dealer but I like knowing what I am in for here, with only 4,000 miles on the truck not a happy owner right now. Stuff happens so could be a pin hole leak but it working last night again after messing with the fuses and coolant makes me think its one of those.

Sorry to hear about the problems you`re having but as you said in the latter part of your posting......"stuff happens" so maybe it`s just a fluke. All man made products so they can fail.

With that being said, yes, I know it`s frustrating that you`re having problems with your new truck but it`s under warranty so just take it in and let the dealer find out whats going on and they`ll fix it because more than likely you`ll get several reasons or explanations on here and that in turn might make you even more frustrated and increase your anger.

Also, isn`t R-134A federally mandated for all cars and it has been for years now?

Just curious because I thought it was.

Yes 134A is mandated for all new vehicles. R12 has been outlawed for a long time, about 30 years or so now.

Most likely it’s electrical.... that’s all I got Seriously though I’d just get to dealer ASAP and wouldn’t mess with it yourself, you mentioned coolant? You’re adding coolant at 4K miles? Or were you referring to refrigerant which I wouldn’t be adding either on a truck as new as yours myself. Let them fix it.

First and foremost the refrigerant is not R134a any longer. The system is R1234yf refrigerant, second almost no one has a machine yet for it. It's also near 1k a cylinder. The system also uses a heater in the suction side to heat the refrigerant. Mine had a bad pressure switch and I had to go to a dealer 100 miles away that had a machine.

Update

So to the couple points above mentioned. Yes, took it to the local Ford dealer. Call me old school or what not but I just like knowing what went sideways on my new truck. I like fixing things and would rather just know it for next time.

So they covered it under warranty, the switch that engages the AC clutch had failed. Additionally the OE ac refergerant was down below OE spec for psi. They found a fitting loose where refergerant escaped , explained the loss of psi.

Still not clear why the fans were running full tilt even after sitting over night. It is back to normal now so happy and cool.

To my original note, others reporting their systems with no refergerant in them. Meaning came from the factory without it, leaked out or something. Regardless of the OE spec just wondering if this was wide spread or just my dumb luck.

My 2008 F250 had the AC fail within 2 weeks of delivery. Took it in and the dealer found the system with no refrigerant. It was filled, the. Failed again within a week. I took it in and the put dye in the system. A pin hole was found on a weld on the evaporator. The compressor failed as a result of the system running while empty.

Dealer replaced the evaporator and compressor, then refilled and checked everything. The AC was nice and cold for years after that.
