anybody have ave a diagram for the interior lighting on a 2002 excursion 7.3. I am trying to figure out the wiring so I can wire in my under dash glow. I am wiring in a 6 strip kit. I want them to come on when the doors open with the steps and interior lights, the wife wants to also be able to turn it on manually by switch. Similar to coming on by the dome switch but they should be able to be on without having the dome lights on, so the kids can read or play with toys in the back going down the road.
I like your idea and have had the same thing in mind. I found a wiring diagram but it doesn't give locations of anything or wire colors so it was kind of worthless. Hopefully someone can chime in with something better.
Under dash, but for the kids in the back?
Are you looking to put the lighting under the front or second row seats, I'm thinking under the dash is too far for the middle row to benefit from?
When I added floor lights to my B pillar I pulled off the middle dome light, although I do have a 2001 diagram, I was able to just pull the ceiling fixture and just do voltage checks and grab the proper colored wires that ran up the pillar.
Not sure if what I have offered is of any help.
So the idea is to put a LED strip under dash on both driver and passenger side, then on the bottom rear of front seats for middle row, and then also bottom rear of middle row seats for 3rd row. I like what you have done. Looks good. Not sure it will help in my situation though. Appreciate the help. I can’t seem to find a diagram anywhere.
I like this idea. I was thinking of doing something similar. My wife has a 2016 Taurus limited so it has the interior ambient lighting that comes on automatically at night with the headlights. Kinda neat, you can change the colors too. But I really do like the difference at night it makes. Plus with three boys it would be nice to light it up for them. I haven't really looked into yet too much but it's on my to do list. on our recent trips we've been turning on the directional light above the seat that the kids are in. I put LEDs in them and they are a good brightness around the seat area and it doesn't impede my rear view mirror view. I thought about maybe wiring in the auto headlight feature to my car then adding those directional lights to it somehow.
I'd research how ford does it with the Taurus (and I'm sure other cars around that year, I wonder if they do it in the super duty's) and you'd probably be on the right track. I'm sorry I haven't done it yet for you but it isn't that high on my priority list at the moment.
Right. That’s cool. But I want them to come on when the doors open and she wants to be able to control them on/off. Headlights wouldn’t necessarily work as she will want the ability to shut them off in the middle of the night when the kids nod out.

sorry, should have added not only can you change the colors, but you can also turn them off completely.
If you are good with a multi-meter you won't need a diagram. Your middle row ceiling map lights have constant power to them and your dome light has switched power to it. On my 2001 those wires run along the pass side under the sill trim plates, and up the B pillar to the ceiling. So you can tap into your power sources at the carpet level, and get your middle and third row covered, and probably run a wire forward to the under dash too. A manual override on/off switch with a possibly relay to prevent back feed to the dome light circuit will have to be self fabricated anyway. Don't forget you have power in the floor console as well. Cup holders can be done too, I added lights to my console cup holders a while back.

Ah, so the harness for them isn't in the headliner. Good to know. I think what he wants though is to find the main power supply for all the lights so he can switch that manually up front.
Have any of you that are needing help, looked in the electrical section of the tech folder to see if what you're looking for is listed? There's also a wiring database you can access.
Google the door-open circuit that is used for car alarms. The notes from Bulldog Security worked for me. When I get home, I can send you a picture of it (truck is still stripped). You just need to know or figure out if it is a (+) or (-) circuit, and wire accordingly.

NOTE #2: If vehicle is equipped with a FACTORY KEYLESS ENTRY, it is a TYPE B Door Locking
System, located in a GRAY Molex plug to the RIGHT of the STEERING COLUMN.
Without a FACTORY KEYLESS ENTRY, the VEHICLE is a TYPE C Door Locking System,
wires are located in the DRIVERS DOOR HARNESS, use the DRIVERS DOOR SWITCH
when testing this is the MASTER SWITCH. Vehicles with the KEY PAD on the Door are
considered to have KEYLESS ENTRY.

Hey, I know this isn't exactly wiring it into the existing wiring, but you can control it with an app on your phone. It connects via bluetooth.
I already plugged it in and the app controls it perfectly. The little button controller it comes with works good. I didn't test the music sync option, cause I don't foresee myself ever using that anyway. It's definitely very bright. I am gonna try to hack into the wiring and see if I can wire it to aux power, maybe even wire it to the light switch. The existing wiring is pretty short so at least that will need to be altered to fit our large interiors. Also, I'll definitely need to buy another strip if I want to run this in the entire interior. I'll keep you updated if you're interested.
