sub wiring

i have heard you can make subs hit "differently" by changing polarity when you hook up your sub. i think its called reverse hitting? is this only used on setups with the subs facing each other firing directly into each other? what effect would this produce on subs in sperate boxes mounted normally? still kinda new to stereo setup, though i did mine by myself...Alpine 9805 with 2 sony 6.5" 3way 180w, 2 sony 6x9" 3way 220w, kenwood 800w stero amp, 2 rf punch he 10"s 400w max....just so yall know

only time i ever heard of reverse wiring is when the sub is mounted on the outside of the sub box. if ur using subs in seperate boxes and u have them wired so they hit different its gunna be outta phase and sounds like poop...

You can wire both subs out of phase with the front to "fool" your ears to believe they are up front with you. This gets a little tricky,, though, as it may cause a phase problem with your front mid-bass/mid-range drivers. Try it and see. High quality decks give you an option to electronically change the phase over the RCA lines.
