Fuel pump issues
I have a 1989 Ford f-150 xlt lariat with a 5.0£. I'm having problems with the rear fuel tank over flowing, a lot of people say it's the dfr anyway I also when I switch it over to the rear tank it acts like it's running out of gas. Which leads my to believe it's also the in tank fuel pump. My question is can I bypass the in tank fuel pump with an external one. My son bought me an eldabrock external fuel pump 38 gph 4-7 psi ( to siphon fuel from the rear to the front tank) would that work to bypass the in tank fuel pump and if it will how would I go about doing it.

What do you mean by the rear tank over flowing? Is it dumping fuel on the ground when you try to fill up at the pump?
Also, it's probably obvious, but I'm out of touch with abbreviations - what is dfr?

Fuel pump
the fuel feeds back into the rear tank instead of the front tank and when the rear tank gets too full fuel comes out of the rear tank filler tube. The dfr is the duel tank fuel resevar

Aha - now it makes sense. You're having trouble with an issue that's very common on these trucks. I haven't dealt with it in a while so I can't recall all the details, but you can find the fix for it here -
