Rotors 2001 Explorer EB 4wd

Putting new pads and rotors on my 2001 4dr Explorer 4WD EB.
Before I start the the job, does anyone have any advice about potential difficulties on this vehicle? Is the rotor a separate piece from the hub on this vehicle? Are any special tools needed for retracting the pistons or can I just press them back in? I know some ford autos require a special retractor tool. Thanks for your help.

I think you'll need a 13 wrench to take the pads off and a 15mm wrench to take the rotors off. (4 bolts in total per unit). You will need any standard 'C' clamp to push the pistons in the callipers.
The rotors are not attach to the front or rear hubs, there a snap to change. My suggestion to you is buy the rotors at ford because I didn't and now I have a high pitch sound every time I apply my brakes. Buy any good semi-metallic pads will do.

Job went smoothly except for 1 frozen slide pin that I finally managed to free up with a torch. Sanded, cleaned, lubed and now as good as new. I put NAPA rotors and metallic pads. The metallic pads have noticeable increased stopping power, (good upgrade if you are towing) but also increases the classic brake dust on the wheels and will probably grind the rotors more quickly.
Used CRC on the pads and have no squeaks -yet
