I was able to get 6 out of the 8 spark plugs out without breaking them and ended up buying the latest model Lisle tool to get the 2 broken spark plugs out. It worked great. I never seen such poor looking spark plugs in my life, there was hardly nothing to spark to. So after putting new Ford spark plugs back in and using diolectric silicone gel on the spark end of the boots, I put back the coils on each and made sure each connection was secure. Time to see if the rough idling stopped . Heck no, it ran like crap again, only thing the engine light went off. Rough idling and will die if you let off the gas . Need help please. I checked the coils prior to putting them back on if there was continuity and there was. Only way I thought of testing the coils.

I'm assuming that it's a 2009/10 F-150 with the 5.4L engine. I probably would have just replaced the coils anyway. But what's needed here is a diagnostic check.
Thanks Tim,
i was going to change them but I was told to check them for continuity. If there is continuity they are good, if there wasn't, they were bad. I checked all of them with my meter and I got continuity . After all the work I went through to get the old spark plugs out, I'll try the coils
Thank you
gDMjoe,
I'm new here and havent quite got the bugs out on posting threads from a previous message. From an earlier post I had mentioned my problem and vehicle info and thought it would end up here sorry about that. Vehicle is a 2007 Lincoln
mark lt 5.4 engine 4 wd. Basically this is a Ford. The vehicle running rough and engine shaking and engine light on. Took it to parts store and they put their machine on it. They said either spark plugs or the coil packs as it was only running on a few plugs so I started with the plugs. There was hardly a point left on them . They were so bad so I thought this has to be it. After putting new plugs in, the engine light went off but running so rough like before.
Thanks Tim,

If a coil has no continuity it is bad.
But having continuity doesn’t mean it Is good.
To prove out a coil you really need to scope it’s current flow.

Great point sir. I had a random misfiire on my Expedition recently. No one could pick up a code so I replaced all eight coils and now it's gone. I think the coils can get weak.
