Which front end parts ?

On my 89, it tends to pull to the right and has been aligned. Would the radius arm bushings or the axle pivot bushings cause this to happen ? I have both but have not made time to replace either. I can hit a small bump and it will, all of a sudden, pull to the left but will eventually go back to pulling to the right. This is driving me crazy so I need some expert opinions. What else could cause this ? The ball joints are OK as well and I just replaced ALL the tie rod assy. from wheel to wheel.

Thanks for any and all input.

are you running larger than stock tires? add a steering stabilizer, check all the bushings on the radius arm. and try and fix any play you find. it could also be the brakes. just somthing else to think about.

I would suspect radius arm-to-frame bushings first but, it never hurts to have a look at the axle pivot bushings as well. And yes, they can both contribute to the kind of problem you are experiencing.

Youngblood,

Radius arms extend from the front axle halves (TTB-Dana44) rearward to a mounting bracket attached to the bottom of the frame rails. One on each side with a large rubber bushing in the mounting bracket that the end of the radius arm passes through. They, in conjunction with the axle pivot mounts, keep the TTB axle secure under the truck. The bushings wear and/or dry rot like any other rubber component.

I've replaced everything in the front "except" the pivot bushings. Doom on me. I have the same problems and suspect the pivot bushings.

ronbo,

Replacing them is tedious and a bit time consuming but I have been told many times that drilling holes in the old ones before you try to knock them out is very helpful indeed. basically removing enough rubber so the bushing will collapse enough to be driven out. Several posts on the "how-to" process for this one.
