strand reenforced concrete

I have my forming complete (24x20) for an apron in front of my garage.
I would like some opinions on fiberglass strand concrete. Is it worth the extra cash? Is it going to be difficult to put a brushed finish on it?
It gets pretty cold up here in the north and I, just looking for crack prevention. The garage floor was poured 4yrs. ago ( rebar and mesh useing a 5 bag mix) and it hasen't cracked. The counterman at the concrete supplier has recommended the more expensive route, I'm concerned about its workability and if it's really any better.
Any opinions will be appeciated. Thanks, Randy

It is a little harder to work (finish) and does leave a "hairy" look, but there is no doubt that it helps to prevent the light stress/expansion cracking. I would go with the 1 1/2 bag per cubic yard with the standard 5 sack 3000 PSI concrete.

It will not, however, prevent the heavy expansion or stress cracking. That is prevented mainly by the compaction of the soil underneath. If you have compacted the soil yourself (or have had tests proving the proper compaction) you will not have that problem.

I agree with Big Orn. The fiber reinforced concrete will help stop the smaller cracks. Concrete is very strong in compression, but not so strong in tension, that is where the fiberglass strands come in.

Thanks for the info guys! I thought this stuff would be harder to finish; I guess I'll rent my compactor after it stops raining. We need the water, I dont mind waiting.

There are some other posts here that mention using the fiber concrete and some of the pros and cons.

Go with the fiber due to the fact of the weather. But i cannot stress enough how important it is to have your soil compacted.I do soil compactions and most require a 95% compaction or not one yard of concrete will go down.Let me tell you how strong the fiber is.I am a concrete technician and mix designeri was doing a bulk head job and they wanted to get a strong as possible so they wanted 5 sack mix 4 bags of fiber per yard and 8 gallons of super plasticide(QUICK HARDENER!!!)Well they stared pouring and the form broke.just 45 minutes after the form broke they were using jack hammers to try to break it apart. It had reached 4000 psi in four hours. It finally reach 7900 psi in fourteen days. This started as a 4500 psi 5 sack mix.:-staun
